- Equipment use and routine maintenance - Laboratory skills - Use and calibration of laboratory equipment - Preparation of solutions and dilutions - Calibration curves - Safe and accurate use of laboratory equipment - Relevant tikanga around selection, preparation, labelling, and storage and disposal or return to patient of samples - Following laboratory procedures and recording data - Selection, preparation, labelling, and storage of samples - Performing and reporting on measurements - Analyses and reporting on data from measurements - Practical knowledge of undertaking calculations in the laboratory - Use of controls and standards - Experimental errors - Calibration curves and presentation of data graphically

Learning Outcomes
LO1 Make and interpret measurements from a range of instruments and equipment. LO2 Demonstrate good practice related to safety, and sample handling and tracking in an applied science work related or research environment. LO3 Carry out scientific calculations in an applied science work related or research environment.

Learning and teaching activities will employ a range of elements drawn from approved methods to align with the context of the learning (delivery mode, regional specific requirement, etc.) and any particular needs of the group of aakonga.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this course supports both achievement and competency-based assessment. Competency-based course completion: Akonga must successfully complete all specified assessment items in order to pass this course. Achievement based course completion: Akonga must submit all specified assessment items, achieve all learning outcomes, and obtain at least 50% overall in order to pass this course.
