Prescription
People achieving this module will be able to demonstrate knowledge of modified environments found in amenity spaces and select, grow and maintain plants in these situations. Graduates will also be able to describe growing media, containers and structures used and the infrastructure, resources and inputs required for plants and planting in modified environments. \r\nNote: Controlled environments in amenity horticulture refers to Interior plantings, green walls and roof gardens\r\n

Demonstrate knowledge of types of modified environments for amenity planting and the growing of plants in modified environments Demonstrate knowledge of soil-less growing media and infrastructure for growing plants in modified environments Select plants for use in modified environments to achieve functional and aesthetic effects.

- Types of modified growing environments in amenity horticulture - Soilless growing media – types, sources, characteristics, maintenance, advantages, disadvantages - Plant identification and selection for use in modified environments. - Structures and containers – types, maintenance requirements, site suitability - Irrigation systems for controlled environments - Environmental impacts - Inputs for plant health and establishment - Sustainability - Health and Safety
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will be face to face delivery including workshops, project based interactive tasks, with group sessions, tutorials, and creation of portfolios of evidence.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is mixed mode (both Achievement and Competency) based. To achieve a pass grade for the module the student must complete all pieces of assessment work achieving full competency in any competency-based tasks and gain a mark of at least 50% overall for the achievement-based assessments.
